Bluetooth beacons (BLE) are hardware transmitters – a class of Bluetooth low energy (LE) devices that broadcast their identifier to nearby portable electronic devices. The technology activates smartphones, tablets and other devices to perform responses when in proximity to the BLE beacon.

Beacons use the Bluetooth low-energy (BLE) wireless technology to point the location of consumers in stores and deliver messages to their mobile devices. Specifically, a beacon transmits a BLE signal that a retailer’s app on a smartphone is coming within range of that signal.

Webkon is using Eddystone and the Physcial Web concept for providing its services as a management system.Eddystone is a Google’s standard for Bluetooth beacons. It supports three types of packets, Eddystone-UID, Eddystone-URL, and Eddystone-TLM.The beacon information available includes battery voltage, beacon temperature, number of packets sent since last startup, and beacon uptime.
